Henderson-based nonprofit nearly doubles its space to serve local seniors age 50 and above, invites public to celebrate with special event and open house on October 27 at 11 a.m.
LAS VEGAS – Foundation Assisting Seniors, a nonprofit providing medical equipment, wellness support, and daily wellness check services to local seniors and veterans, is marking a new chapter next month as it invites the public to celebrate its recent expansion on Tuesday, October 27 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at their office located at 2518 Anthem Village Drive, Ste. 110, Henderson, NV 89052.
The nonprofit, established in 2002, supports older adults
aged 50 and above in the Las Vegas Valley by removing the administrative, insurance, and financial barriers that often stand between older adults and the care they need. According to U.S. Census data, Clark County residents age 50+ currently make up nearly 40% of the population, and UNLV’s Center for Business and Economic Research forecasts that Clark County will continue aging faster than the national average as birth rates fall and retirees keep moving to the region.
“Seniors are the invisible population. It seems like once someone ages, when they need help the most, that’s when they get it the least,” said Vicki Bertin, President and CEO of Foundation Assisting Seniors. “While medical care for aging adults is generally accessible, the equipment and in-home support that actually make recovery and independent living safe – grab bars, mobility aids, fall-prevention modifications – are too often out of reach.”
Foundation Assisting Seniors operates two main programs: a medical equipment distribution program and the HowRU Daily Wellness Check program, where volunteers check on vulnerable seniors and veterans every day. Since the HowRU program’s launch in 2016, it has led to 15 documented life-saving interventions. Through its medical equipment distribution program, the foundation maintains a ready inventory of durable medical equipment (DME), including wheelchairs, walkers, rollators, transport chairs, hospital beds, and other mobility and safety equipment, as well as incontinence supplies, all provided to clients at no cost.
“Last year, we loaned over 4,800 pieces of medical equipment and helped over 3,000 seniors,” Bertin adds. “Expanding our headquarters from 2,400 to nearly 5,000 square feet allows us to serve more clients, store and manage more specialized medical equipment, and keep up with demand and a senior population that’s expected to continue growing. The upcoming ribbon cutting event is our way of inviting the community to come out, see the new space, and learn more about our organization and what we do.”
Free and open to the public,
the Oct. 27 event will feature:
• A ribbon-cutting ceremony with the Vegas and Henderson Chambers of Commerce
• Recognition and support from local elected officials
• The chance to learn more about Foundation Assisting Seniors and its programs
• Open house format to explore expanded the office space and on-hand equipment
Those interested in attending the event can RSVP by visiting bit.ly/FASRibbonCutting.
About Foundation Assisting Seniors
Foundation Assisting Seniors (FAS) was founded in 2002 as a small community initiative designed to assist Las Vegas valley seniors and veterans aged 50 and above in remaining safe, independent, and supported in their homes by removing the administrative, insurance, and financial barriers that often stand between older adults and the care they need. Now, the organization has grown to be a trusted, rapid-response, volunteer-run community resource providing free durable medical equipment (*DME), wellness support, and daily wellness check services and supports safe hospital discharges, reducing fall risk, and helping older adults age in place with dignity.
Foundation Assisting Seniors is based in Henderson but supports residents throughout the valley. For more information or to receive services, visit http://www.foundationassistingseniors.org/ or call (725) 244-4200.
