Open to the public, the annual Crawl for a Cause and Domestic Violence Vigil support victims, survivors, and families affected by domestic violence
LAS VEGAS – October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month and S.A.F.E. House, Southern Nevada’s most trusted domestic violence organization, is commemorating it with two major events: its annual Crawl for a Cause fundraiser and annual Domestic Violence Vigil. While different, both events are designed to support and honor victims, survivors, and families affected by domestic violence.
Crawl for a Cause
Presented by Maier Gutierrez
and Associates, S.A.F.E. House’s annual pub crawl, Crawl for a Cause, is set to return to Water Street in Henderson for its fifth year on Saturday, October 10 at 5 p.m. The annual event brings together community members age 21 and older for an evening of drinks, food, fun, family and friends, all while supporting S.A.F.E. House, its programs, and victim-survivors of domestic violence.
The event will feature stops at local Henderson favorites including Gold Mine Tavern, Sticks Tavern, Johnny Mac’s Water Street Tavern, Mojave Brewing Company, and Chinitas Tapas & Sushi. All ticket holders will receive one complimentary drink or snack at each participating location, along with a commemorative branded pint glass sponsored by Johnny Mac’s Sports Bar and Grill.
Ticket prices are determined by quantity: $50 for one, $40 each for two tickets, $30 each for four tickets, and $25 each for 10 tickets, and can be purchased at http://www.safehousenv.org/events/ or https://safehousenv.betterworld.org/events/5th-annual-crawl-cause. Proceeds from the crawl will benefit S.A.F.E. House and help provide safety, shelter, and supportive services to survivors of domestic violence and their children.
Domestic Violence Vigil
While many victims of domestic violence survive their circumstances, others sadly never get that privilege. According to the Nevada Coalition to End Domestic and Sexual Violence (NCEDSV), 33 victims’ lives were lost last year due to domestic violence homicide.
To honor and remember all of the men, women, and children who have died at the hands of domestic disputes, S.A.F.E. House is hosting its annual Domestic Violence Vigil on Wednesday, October 21 at 6 p.m. at Proctor Judicial Park in Henderson.
While a night to remember the lives lost, the candlelight gathering brings the community together to also support and uplift survivors through poetry, testimonies, and community connection, and raise community awareness about the realities and impact of domestic violence.
Proctor Judicial Park is located at 243 S Water St., Henderson, NV 89015 (corner of Basic and Water St.) and holds special meaning to S.A.F.E. House as it’s named after co-founder Ken Proctor, who passed away in 2014. This year’s vigil falls on October 21st, his birthday.

About S.A.F.E. House
What started off as a small, grassroots mission to stop domestic violence, grew into a lifelong mission for Julie Proctor, one of the many co-founders of S.A.F.E. House. Julie was a victim herself and knew that this could not continue in the community. Together, with Ken Proctor, and eight other dedicated volunteers, they established the first domestic violence shelter in Henderson.
Over the last three decades, S.A.F.E. House has transformed into one of the most comprehensive domestic violence organizations in the state. Since its inception, S.A.F.E. House has provided shelter, counseling, advocacy, housing assistance, and education to more than 100,000 people. S.A.F.E. House has provided services to victims of domestic violence in a holistic way that includes providing a full complement of services to victims from all races and backgrounds, offering culturally competent and linguistically competent services based on a trauma-informed model that responds to the individuals’ needs.
