An effective marketing plan is much more than building a website and getting on social media. In order to help a business generate leads and turn those leads into sales, a company must include several key elements into an overall marketing plan.
Define Your Target Market
Be sure you understand who you are trying to reach and why your target audience needs your product or service. Once you know a market exists for your product, begin by researching who needs to know about your offerings, what their demographics look like, and where they are spending their time and money. Create an ideal customer and describe the individual in as much detail as possible.
Create a Strategy with Goals, Tactics, Deadlines and Measurement
The more detailed your strategy is, the better off you’ll be in both executing and evaluating your marketing plan. Set some goals and then measure regularly to determine your progress.
For example, you may be trying to increase traffic and conversions on your website by a certain percentage in the next six months or secure a certain number of orders in the next fiscal quarter. Your plan could include any of the following tactics, which would each require its own strategic plan: digital marketing, print advertising, outdoor advertising, native advertising and advertorials, direct mail, special events, promotional partnerships, seasonal promotions, public and media relations, online content development, event or team sponsorships, and more. Think about what elements you can influence and work to come up with content or tactics that support those elements.
