Las Vegas – The Las Vegas Natural History Museum invites the public to celebrate Black History Month with the opening of Resilience, a community-created cultural exhibition and museum-created historical exploration of African Americans’ scientific contributions. Launching February 1, the exhibition features a unique collection of art and poetry by community members and families, as well as weekend workshops.

“Hosting Resilience is a unique and inclusive way for us to recognize and celebrate Black History Month,” said Grace Njoroge, Education Director of Las Vegas Natural History Museum. “By including the art and poetry of community members and artists, we not only add an authentic and local depth but provide diverse perspectives from individuals and families as we celebrate the significant contributions of Black scientists to the natural sciences.”

Folk Arts workshops, hosted by Ghanaian African dance performer Harold Akyeampong with the Nevada Arts Council, will be held every Saturday at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. starting February 3. Each workshop will offer a unique experience using authentic non-Western musical instruments and focus on the profound impact of African music on global music styles, how music connects with other academic subjects, and how visitors can use it to solve everyday challenges. 

Resilience is included with museum admission or membership, and will be exhibiting through Thursday, February 29, 2024. Located north of Cashman Center at 900 Las Vegas Blvd N., the museum is open daily from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. General admission tickets are priced at $14 per adult and $7 for children ages 3-11 and can be purchased online at www.lvnhm.org or at the door. Discounts are available for Nevada residents.
