Nevada Preservation Foundation Strengthens Preservation Efforts in Southern Nevada through Community Partnerships and Advocacy

Collaboration with Henderson Historical Society, advocacy for the Howard Hughes “Green House” move, among other strategic alliances highlight growing preservation impact

LAS VEGASNevada Preservation Foundation (NPF), a statewide non-profit organization founded in 2014 to preserve and revitalize historic Nevada buildings and neighborhoods, continues to strengthen its preservation efforts and expand its role as a trusted leader through multiple advocacy, consulting and educational initiatives across Southern Nevada. Aligning with local organizations including the Henderson Historical Society, Clark County Museum Guild, and Reid Public History Institute, these projects advance NPF’s core advocacy goal of preserving Nevada’s historic sites and cultural heritage through education, collaboration and community involvement.

“We are committed to working with anyone who wants to preserve Nevada’s history,” said Dr. Paige Figanbaum, Executive Director of NPF. “By working with local organizations, students and community partners, these efforts not only safeguard our shared heritage but also strengthens community awareness, engagement and collaboration across the state.”

As NPF’s expertise continues to be sought by local organizations, these initiatives demonstrate how the foundation supports communities in preserving Nevada’s history and expanding regional outreach.

Henderson Historical Society Partnership

NPF is proud to serve as a preservation partner to the Henderson Historical Society (HHS), providing strategic planning, program development, and outreach support to strengthen the organization’s ability to preserve and share Henderson’s rich history. HHS’s mission to foster public awareness, pride, and the preservation of Henderson’s heritage for future generations aligns closely with NPF’s statewide commitment to empowering preservation partners. Through this collaboration, NPF is expanding its community outreach and ensuring that organizations of all sizes have the resources and guidance they need to thrive. This partnership highlights NPF’s growing role as a trusted preservation resource for institutes, historical societies, and community groups dedicated to safeguarding the stories and places that define Nevada’s identity.

Supporting the Howard Hughes “Green House” Move

NPF is supporting fundraising efforts for Clark County Museum Guild’s “Heritage in Motion” campaign, the effort to relocate and preserve the historic Howard Hughes “Green House” at the Clark County Museum in Henderson. Once relocated and restored, the structure will join Heritage Street, the museum’s collection of historic houses representing different eras in Southern Nevada’s domestic and industrial past.

This initiative underscores the importance of preserving Nevada’s architectural and cultural landmarks – places that tell the state’s stories of where we’ve been, why we’re here, and where we’re headed as a community. Through this community-driven campaign, the Clark County Museum Guild invites all supporters of Nevada history to join in bringing this landmark home to the museum by making a donation at clarkcountymuseumguild.org.

Reid Public History Institute Collaboration

NPF is developing a partnership with the Reid Public History Institute to create new opportunities for students pursuing careers in public history. This collaboration will establish a dedicated Reid Institute section within NPF’s programming, offering hands-on experiences that apply historical skills and methods beyond the traditional classroom. By mentoring and engaging future preservation professionals, NPF is helping to ensure that emerging professionals have the knowledge, tools, and experience needed to protect Nevada’s historic places for years to come.

Past Highlights
Over the years, NPF has led transformative projects to celebrate and protect Nevada’s rich architectural and cultural heritage. In 2016, NPF played a pivotal role in securing the historic designation of Beverly Green, a beloved midcentury neighborhood once home to entertainers, casino owners, and civic leaders. This designation safeguarded the area’s distinctive character and strengthened its connection to Las Vegas’ storied past.

Building on that success, NPF guided the expansion of the historic overlay for Paradise Palms, Clark County’s first master-planned community. Originally designated in 2017, the district has since grown to include nearly 1,000 homes, making it the largest single-family historic neighborhood in Southern Nevada. NPF also serves as the custodian of the Hugh Taylor Architectural Archive, housed at the Nevada State Museum, Las Vegas, which preserves more than 5,000 original drawings of iconic city landmarks.

Beyond Southern Nevada, NPF supported the restoration of the El Rancho Hotel and Casino in Wells, a 1949 landmark revitalized after earthquake damage and nominated for the National Register of Historic Places.

NPF’s continued leadership through initiatives like the Historic Resource Catalog and the Home + History Las Vegas festival, celebrating its 10th anniversary in 2025, underscores the organization’s commitment to preserving Nevada’s past while inspiring its future.

“Preservation isn’t just about saving buildings – it’s about keeping the stories of our communities alive,” added Figanbaum.
