Everyone likes to be appreciated and thanked. It’s a basic human need, and when you can recognize a job well done, it goes a long way to establishing a positive relationship.
Recognition doesn’t have to be a huge deal. It can be as simple as a thank you note. If you want to be noticed, send a handwritten one through snail mail instead of electronically. If the project was large, you can publicly recognize individuals at a conference or meeting or provide a monetary bonus. Rewarding employees or clients with a special event or experience might also be appreciated.
Being genuine is important. No one likes fake recognition. Besides, be sure the gesture of thanks would be appreciated. Try to select something you know the individual would appreciate and enjoy, and that shows you put some extra thought into the selection process.
