Greater Youth Sports Association to Honor Student Athletes & Coaches with 5th Annual Character & Awards Night Event
Las Vegas nonprofit dedicated to empowering at-risk youth through sports offers sponsorship opportunities to help sustain vital community programming
Las Vegas – Greater Youth Sports Association (GYSA), a Las Vegas-based nonprofit dedicated to empowering at-risk youth through sports, is offering sponsorship opportunities for its upcoming signature event, Character & Awards Night taking place on May 8, 2024. Funds raised will help GYSA to continue its vital community programming of providing access to school sports, impacting thousands of elementary-age students across Clark County.
This invite-only celebration honors the accomplishments of student athletes enrolled in GYSA’s School Sports Solution™ (SSS) program, bringing together community leaders and high-profile role models to recognize program participants, many from low-income households, for their hard work on and off the field. The event also honors the dedicated coaches who generously volunteer their time to mentor and support the children GYSA serves.
Founded in 2018 by elementary P.E. teacher Devonte Woodson and his partner, Annalise Lullo, GYSA addresses challenges faced by underprivileged children with its unique afterschool program. The proprietary SSS combines sports like soccer, basketball, flag football, cheer and track with daily academic tutoring, social-emotional learning and character development activities.
“So many of our kids lack access to traditional team sports, especially in elementary school, due to costs and lack of resources in our community,” said Woodson. “GYSA provides a safe, structured environment for underserved youth to not only engage in physical activity but develop important life skills like emotional control, confidence and perseverance.”
Since its inception, GYSA has expanded from three to 28 partner sites across the Las Vegas Valley. In its latest season GYSA impacted nearly 3,000 elementary students 87% of whom qualify for free or reduced lunch and is on track to do the same for its ongoing season.
GYSA’s largest Character & Awards Night to date will take place at the Lee’s Family Forum (formerly the Dollar Loan Center Arena), anticipating 1,500-2,000 attendees. Sponsorship opportunities are still available, allowing corporations and individuals to get involved at various tiers starting at $500 and reaching $5,000 for a Title Sponsorship. Attendees will have the opportunity to buy in to a 50/50 raffle, where half of the proceeds will support the Greater Youth Sports Association, and the other half goes to the lucky winner.
